Japan-ROK Summit Meeting (Summary)

On November 16, commencing at 2:55 p.m. (local time. 4:55 a.m. on November 17, Japan time) for approximately 50 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan held a Summit Meeting with H.E. Mr. YOON Suk Yeol, President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) during his visit to Lima, Republic of Peru, for the APEC Leaders’ Meetings. The summary of the meeting is as follows.
1. The two leaders exchanged candid views on Japan-ROK relations. The two leaders concurred to further elevate the bilateral relationship to new heights towards the next year, which marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of the Japan-ROK relations under their relationship. The two leaders decided to promote Japan-ROK relations comprehensively such as politics, security, economy, culture and social security. The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of cooperation among Japan, the ROK, and the United States.
2. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional situations, such as our policies toward North Korea. Regarding North Korea, they shared serious concern on its nuclear and missile activities and further advancement of its military cooperation with Russia including deployment of North Korean troops to Russia. The two leaders reaffirmed that they would continue to work closely together between Japan and ROK, as well as among Japan, the ROK, and the United States. President Yoon reiterated the support to Japan regarding the abductions issue.
3 The two leaders reaffirmed that they would continue to communicate closely with one another.
