Japan-Malaysia Summit Meeting (Summary)

On November 15, commencing at 0:35 p.m. local time (November 16 2:35 a.m. Japan time) for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting the Republic of Peru to attend the APEC Leaders' Meeting, held a summit meeting with His Excellency Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that Japan would like to support Malaysia, ASEAN Chair next year, and to work closely together in a wide range of areas. In response, Prime Minister Anwar stated that Malaysia attaches importance on cooperation with Japan, which is a longstanding and important partner, and he would like to continue to closely cooperate with Japan.
2. Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that Japan attaches importance on cooperation with Malaysia, welcomed the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in security area, and expressed his desire to promote specific cooperation in the areas of maritime safety and energy transition. In response, Prime Minister Anwar stated that he would like to further strengthen cooperation with Japan in a wide range of areas, including security area.
3. The two leaders also exchanged views on further promotion of Japan-ASEAN cooperation and regional and international challenges and agreed to work together to address these issues.
