On November 15 (November 16 JST), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Dialogue with the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) was held in Lima, the Republic of Peru, and Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, attended the meeting, which is summarized as follows.
As the ABAC-Japan members, Dr. SUZUKI Jun, Senior Advisor, Teijin Limited, Mr. NAKASO Hiroshi, Chairman of the Institute, Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd., and Mr. KOKUBU Fumiya, Chairman of the Board, Marubeni Corporation, also attended the meeting.
1. At the outset, H.E. Ms. Dina BOLUARTE, President of the Republic of Peru, this year’s APEC Chair, delivered her opening remarks and Ms. Julia TORREBLANCA, ABAC Chair for 2024, made a presentation on the “2024 ABAC Key Recommendations to APEC Leaders.”
2. Prime Minister ISHIBA then participated in discussions with the ABAC members from various economies, including Dr. SUZUKI, and frankly and freely exchanged views on a wide range of areas, including the need for technological innovation to address climate change and natural disaster risks, promotion of the use of AI and digital technologies to resolve social issues, and the importance of sharing knowledge in the Asia-Pacific region.
