Regarding the assessment of the current state of the Japanese economy, the June Monthly Economic Report states, “While the Japanese economy is recovering at a moderate pace, there is uncertainty arising from U.S. trade policies and other factors.” Furthermore, concerning short-term prospects, the Report states that “the improvement in the employment and income situation and the effects of the policies are expected to support a moderate recovery, while the Japanese economy faces increasing downturn risks due to the impact of U.S. trade policies.” The Report further states, “In addition, the effects of continued price increases on private consumption through a downturn in consumer sentiment also pose the risk of downward pressure on the Japanese economy. Further attention should be given to the effects of fluctuations in the financial and capital markets, as well.”
