March 25, 2025

[Provisional translation]

On March 25, 2025, Prime Minister Ishiba held the fourth meeting of the Japan Exposition Comprehensive Promotion Council at the Prime Minister’s Office.
At the meeting, the participants engaged in discussions on the Japan Cultural Expo 2.0.
Following the exchange of views, the Prime Minister said:
“Thank you very much for attending the meeting of the Japan Exposition Comprehensive Promotion Council out of your busy schedules today.
There are 19 days to go until the Osaka Kansai Expo begins. The expo is a golden opportunity for a large number of people from countries around the world to visit the event and discover the appeal of Japan.
I hope that you will fully demonstrate the results of past efforts related to the Japan Cultural Expo on this occasion, so that people all over the world will take interest in the history, culture, and tradition of local areas in Japan and many of them will actually visit those areas.
This year marks the culmination of Japan Cultural Expo 2.0, a project that began in fiscal year 2023 in preparation for the Osaka Kansai Expo.
I ask the relevant ministries and agencies to work together under the leadership of the Agency for Cultural Affairs to examine the efforts to date, exercise their ingenuity, and advance initiatives to ensure that the tangible and intangible legacies of the Japan Cultural Expo are sustainable, rather than temporary, including by considering new developments of the project. Thank you.”
