Japan-Viet Nam Summit Meeting (Summary)
On October 11th, commencing at 9:00 a.m. local time (11:00 a.m. Japan time on October 11th) for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, participating in ASEAN-related summit meetings, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The overview is as follows.
At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his pleasure at meeting Prime Minister Chinh and expressed his condolences for the extensive damage caused by the typhoon Yagi, which hit Viet Nam last month. He also stated that Japan had provided relief goods and had decided to provide an additional Emergency Grant Aid, noting that Japan would continue to make efforts toward reconstruction and rehabilitation. In response, Prime Minister Chinh congratulated Prime Minister ISHIBA on his appointment and expressed his gratitude for Japan's support for the typhoon damage, and his desire to work with Prime Minister ISHIBA to further develop Japan-Viet Nam relations. The two leaders also agreed to deepen cooperation in all areas under the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World", which was upgraded last year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The two leaders agreed to expand people-to-people exchanges, including the high-level exchange, and to cooperate with each other in the fields of high technology, digital transformation (DX), green transformation (GX), and the development of high-level human resources under the new partnership. The two leaders also agreed to pursue cooperation in the area of security in a concrete manner.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international situation. Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that he would like to strengthen cooperation with Viet Nam in dealing with regional and international situations in order to realize a free and open international order based on the rule of law. The two leaders also agreed to work closely together in addressing regional and international situations for peace and stability in the region, including the East and South China Seas, the nuclear, missile and abduction issues by North Korea, the situation in Myanmar, Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East.
