Congratulatory Message from Prime Minister KISHIDA to Prime Minister of the UK Starmer

On July 5, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, sent a congratulatory letter to the Rt Hon Keir Starmer MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on his appointment.

1. In the letter, Prime Minister Kishida congratulated Prime Minister Starmer on his appointment and stated that the partnership between Japan and the UK, which share values and principles, is closer and stronger than ever. Prime Minister Kishida also stated that he would like to strengthen the cooperation to realize a "free and open Indo-Pacific" and to maintain and strengthen the free and open international order based on the rule of law, against the backdrop of the deepening recognition that the security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific are inseparable.

2. Moreover, Prime Minister Kishida conveyed his intention to work with Prime Minister Starmer in advancing cooperation in a wide range of areas, including security and the economy, as well as in the G7 and in addressing the challenges of the international community.
