Letter of Condolences by Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio regarding the Passing of Hon. Senator Silvio Berlusconi of the Italian Republic

On June 12, following the passing of Hon. Senator Silvio Berlusconi on the same day, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, issued a letter of condolence to H.E. Ms. Giorgia Meloni, President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic.

In the letter, Prime Minister Kishida stated that he is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Senator Berlusconi and he extended his heartfelt condolences to the Italian Republic and the Italian people on behalf of the Government and people of Japan.

Prime Minister Kishida also expressed his sincere respect for the Senator’s efforts to develop relations between Japan and Italy, touching upon the carrier of the Senator, who served as President of the Council of Ministers for four times and attended the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit during his mandate, as well as the support he offered following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.
