I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of His Excellency Mr. Jiang Zemin.
His Excellency Mr. Jiang Zemin not only contributed to China's development by promoting the reform and open-door policies, but also played an important role in Japan-China relations, including becoming the first Chinese President to make an official visit to Japan in 1998.
I would like to express my sincere condolences to the bereaved family members, the government and the people of China.
