November 30, 2022
[Provisional translation]
“Furyu-odori,” which have been passed down in various forms throughout Japan, such as Bon-odori and Nenbutsu-Odori, represents people' s hopes and prayers for a tranquil life.
I sincerely welcome the inscription of such Furyu-odori ritual folk dances on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
I would like to ensure that the 41 “Furyu-odori” ritual folk dances that have been handed down for generations in different regions will be passed on to the next generation and promoted both at home and abroad.
