Japan-Jordan Summit Telephone Meeting (Summary)
On September 2, commencing at 6: 35 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan held a telephone meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah Ⅱ Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows.

Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan is paying close attention to the situation in the Middle East with great interest and concern, and explained that it is important to prevent chain of retaliation, and that Japan has been reaching out to the parties concerned. The two leaders exchanged their views, including over the situation going forward, and confirmed continued cooperation between both countries, including the ways to protect Japanese nationals.

His Majesty King Abdullah stated that the situation is extremely tense and it is important to cooperate with Japan, a close and important partner, and shared Prime Minister Kishida’s view over the current situation. His Majesty King Abdullah then explained the latest situation on the ground as well as Jordan’s diplomatic efforts. His Majesty King Abdullah also stated that Jordan spares no effort in cooperating to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals in case of emergency.

The two leaders confirmed that the two countries will continue to work together in order to prevent further escalation.
