On August 28th, commencing at 11:10 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call by the delegation led by U.S. Congressman John Moolenaar, Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida welcomed the delegation on their visit to Japan. He also expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome on the occasion of his address at a Joint Meeting of the U.S. Congress during his official visit to the U.S. in April.

Both sides exchanged views on various challenges that the Indo-Pacific region is facing. They reaffirmed the importance of upholding a free and open international order based on the rule of law and the significance of efforts in the field of economic security. Prime Minister Kishida emphasized the necessity of strengthening coordination with allies and like-minded countries, including the U.S., in addressing these challenges.

The attending members of the Congress expressed their appreciation for Prime Minister Kishida's leadership in strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance and in promoting a “Free and Open Indo-pacific,” and conveyed their expectations for the further development of Japan-U.S. relations.
