Courtesy call from Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt (Summary)
On August 23, commencing at 9:40 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from Dr. Badr ABDELATTY, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who is visiting Japan to attend Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview is as follows:

At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida congratulated Minister Abdelatty on joining the Cabinet and welcomed his visit to Japan immediately after taking office.

Prime Minister Kishida stated that Egypt plays an important role for peace and stability in the Middle East and African regions, and that it has been a highly important partner to Japan.

In response, Minister Abdelatty handed over President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s letter to Prime Minister Kishida, and expressed his expectation for further developing the bilateral relations. Both sides concurred on further promoting cooperation toward African countries in coordination with each other, in addition to the bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan is paying close attention to the current situation in the Middle East with great interest and concern, and expressed that Japan supports the efforts made by Egypt with regard to the situation surrounding Gaza. The two sides concurred to continue close coordination.
