Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Kishida by President Brotherson of French Polynesia (Summary)

On July 18, commencing at 3:35pm for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Moetai Brotherson, President of French Polynesia, who is visiting Japan to participate in the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 10). The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida welcomed President Brotherson's visit to Japan and welcomed the progress of cooperation with the French Republic and French Polynesia toward the realization of a “free and open Indo-Pacific”. Prime Minister Kishida also stated that through the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 10), Japan and the Pacific Island countries and regions could strengthen “Kizuna” between them, as well as discuss cooperation aligned with the “2050 Strategy for Blue Pacific Continent”. In response, President Brotherson expressed his appreciation for the discussions at PALM 10 and his desire to further strengthen relations with Japan.
  2. The two sides then exchanged views on strengthening relations, including people-to-people exchanges between Japan and French Polynesia, and concurred to work together to address regional and international issues such as climate change and the marine environment.
