Informal Talks among Japan-Australia-New Zealand-ROK (IP4) Leaders and the president of the United States (Summary)

On July 11 commencing at 10:30 a.m. (at 11:30 p.m. JST) for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who was visiting Washington D.C., the United States of America to attend the NATO Summit, joined Rt. Hon. Christopher LUXON, Prime Minister of New Zealand, H.E. Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol, President of the Republic of Korea and The Hon. Richard Marles MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of the Commonwealth of Australia, to hold informal talks with The Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States of America. Ahead of the Informal Talks, the IP4 leaders and President Biden had a photo opportunity with H.E. Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)

  1. The five leaders concurred on the importance of strong solidarity between Japan, Australia, NZ, ROK and the United States, which share a vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
  2. Under the recognition that the security of the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable, they also shared grave concerns over the development of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, including the result of the recent Russia-North Korea Summit Meeting, and affirmed that they will continue to deepen communication and cooperation, including in the context of NATO. They also concurred on coordinating among their foreign ministers.
