On July 11, commencing at 9:25 a.m. local time (at 10:25 p.m. JST) for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who was visiting Washington D.C., United States of America to attend NATO Summit, following Japan-Australia-New Zealand-ROK Leaders’ meeting with Rt Hon Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, H.E. Mr. YOON Suk Yeol, President of the Republic of Korea, The Hon. Richard Marles MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of the Commonwealth of Australia, attended the Japan-Australia-New Zealand-ROK (IP4) + Ukraine Leaders’ Meeting with the participation of H.E. Mr. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine. The overview is as follows.
- At the beginning, President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the support from the IP4 countries for Ukraine, and stated that support from the Indo-Pacific region is becoming increasingly important for Ukraine, and he expresses his hopes for continued cooperation.
- Prime Minister Kishida stated that this meeting was meaningful in that it shows that Ukraine is an issue not only for Europe but also for the entire international community, including the Indo-Pacific. He then conveyed his intention to strongly support Ukraine, touching on the bilateral document recently signed with Ukraine and Japan's contribution to support for Ukraine.
- The leaders of the countries agreed to continue cooperation between the IP4 countries and Ukraine.
