Participation of Mrs. KISHIDA Yuko, Spouse of the Prime Minister, in the Official Spouses' Program of G7 Apulia Summit : Second Day (Summary)

On April 14, 2024 (local time), Mrs. KISHIDA Yuko, the spouse of the Prime Minister, who is visiting Apulia of the Italian Republic with Prime Minister Kishida, visited Grottaglie, Alberobello and Martina Franca as part of the Partners’ Programme of the G7 Puglia Summit.

Afterwards, Mrs. Kishida, together with Prime Minister Kishida, attended an informal dinner hosted by Italian Prime Minister Meloni in Borgo Egnazia.

1. Partners' Programme organised by the Italian Government (Day 2)
Mrs. Kishida visited Grottaglie, Alberobello and Martina Franca as part of the G7 Puglia Summit Partners' Programme.

In Grottaglie, Puglia's leading pottery town, Mrs. Kishida visited two of its oldest ceramics workshops, “Ceramiche Nicola Fasano” and “Casa Vestita”, where she saw the traditional pottery making of Grottaglie.

In Alberobello, the World Heritage Site, Mrs. Kishida visited with its characteristic pontoon-roofed dwellings (Turulli) and the traditional lifestyle under Turulli. The tour also included a walkthrough of the town, which was crowded with tourists, and an explanation of the historical background to the construction of these roofs.

Mrs. Kishida then travelled to Martina Franca on a wooden steam train built between 1920s and 1930s, and visited the Palazzo Ducale di Martina Franca, one of the largest buildings in Puglia, built in the 1300s, which is now the city hall and museum. She was briefed on the Renaissance and Baroque influences of the interior and the historical significance of the palace.

Mrs. Kishida told the officials: "It was a great memory for me to get to know the charms of Puglia with our partners." She also stated that she had a very good memory of the event.

Together with Prime Minister Kishida, Mrs. Kishida attended an informal dinner hosted by Italian Prime Minister Meloni in Borgo Egnazia.
