Informal Talks between Prime Minister Kishida and President von der Leyen of the European Commission (Summary)

 On June 14, commencing at 12:20 p.m. local time (7:20 p.m. JST), for approximately five minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who was visiting Puglia, Italy to attend the G7 Summit, held informal talks with H.E. Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. The overview of the talks is as follows.

1. At the beginning, Prime Minister Kishida congratulated President Ursula von der Leyen on the results of the European Parliament elections, and she expressed her gratitude.

2. President von der Leyen expressed her appreciation for Prime Minister Kishida's decision to deal with economic security as a main theme at the G7 Hiroshima Summit last year, bringing this agenda into the spotlight. The two leaders concurred to continue coordination on tackling issues of economic security at the G7 and other fora.
