Prime Minister Kishida’s Dialogue with the Next Generation for Japan-U.S. Friendship and Cooperation (Summary)

On April 9th, commencing at 1:15 p.m. (local time, 2:15 a.m. on April 10th, Japan time) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, during his official visit to Washington D.C., had a dialogue with the next generation for Japan-U.S. friendship and cooperation. The overview of the dialogue is as follows.
1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida stated that he was pleased to meet the young people who are the future of Japan-U.S. relations, and that he himself spent time in the U.S. at a young age and felt the freedom and dynamism of the U.S. Prime Minister Kishida stated that he would like to hear their activities.
2. In response, the participants shared their idea and thoughts about the outlook of Japan-U.S. relations and the role they should play including in the medical and dispute resolution fields based on their experiences. Answering questions from Prime Minister Kishida, each participants also stated their learnings and discoveries they gained through living and studying at each country.
3. After the dialogue, Prime Minister Kishida encouraged the participants, saying that he was very encouraged by their enthusiasm for friendship and cooperation between Japan and the U.S., and that they should continue to persevere.
