Prime Minister Kishida’s Telephone Talk with President-elect Prabowo of Indonesia (Summary)

On March 21, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with His Excellency Prabowo Subianto, President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia, for about 10 minutes from 4:30 p.m. The overview of the talk is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida extended his congratulations to President-elect Prabowo on his victory in the presidential election, and stated that he would work together to further develop the Japan-Indonesia relations.
  2. Prime Minister Kishida stated that the two countries are Comprehensive and Strategic Partners which share fundamental principles and values and have enjoyed historical ties in a wide range of areas such as politics, economy and culture. Furthermore, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his resolve to steadily advance the cooperation with Indonesia in such fields as infrastructure development, environment and energy, human resource development, and defense and security while working together on regional and global issues as well.
  3. In response, President-elect Prabowo expressed his gratitude for Prime Minister Kishida’s words of congratulations and stated that as Japan has been a longstanding friend and an extremely important partner for Indonesia, he would like to cooperate with Prime Minister Kishida in further reinforcing the bilateral cooperation in such a wide range of areas as economy, defense and security.
  4. The two leaders concurred on working together on various issues to further strengthen the Japan-Indonesia relations.
