Japan-Qatar Summit Meeting (Summary)

On December 1st, commencing at 11:10 a.m. local time (4:10 a.m. Japan time) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to attend COP28 “United Nations World Climate Action Summit,” held a Japan-Qatar Summit Meeting with His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar. The summary of the meeting is as follows.

1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida stated that he is delighted to meet with Amir Tamim again and expressed his high appreciation for Qatar's mediation efforts on the situation surrounding the Gaza Strip regarding the recent pause in the fighting and the release of the hostages.

2. In response, Amir Tamim explained Qatar's ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding the release of hostages and the recent pause in the fighting.

3. Prime Minister Kishida then touched on the recent situation surrounding the Gaza Strip, and stated that in addition to the initial Emergency Grant Aid of USD 10million, Japan is working to provide approximately USD 65 million in additional humanitarian aid to Palestine for the time being to improve the humanitarian situation. He also expressed that it is regrettable that the fighting has resumed and that it is important to return to the agreement and to calm down the situation as soon as possible.

4. The two leaders confirmed that the two countries will continue to work together to improve the humanitarian situation and calm down the situation as soon as possible.

5. The two leaders also concurred to work closely to further strengthen the bilateral relations not only in the energy sector, but also in a wide range of areas including political, economic and security.
