Japan-Egypt Summit Telephone Talk (Summary)

On November 29th, commencing at 19:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Abdel-Fattah El-SISI, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to discuss the recent development in Israel and Palestine. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his appreciation for the cooperation extended by Egypt for safe departure of Japanese nationals and their families from the Gaza Strip on November 1st. Prime Minister Kishida also welcomed the Israel-Hamas deal on the pause in the fighting, the release of hostages and the scaling up of the humanitarian deliveries into the Gaza strip, mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States, as well as the subsequent two-day extension of the pause.
- President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for humanitarian assistance by the Government of Japan and explained Egypt’s view in addressing the situation.
- The two leaders concurred on maintaining close cooperation between the two countries toward calming down the situation as soon as possible.
