Japan-Ukraine Summit Telephone Talk (Summary)

On November 8, commencing at around 6:00 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Volodymyr ZELENSKYY, President of Ukraine. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida stated that the G7 Foreign Ministers in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which took place today in Tokyo, confirmed that the G7 will remain unchanged in its attitude to impose severe sanctions against Russia and provide strong support for Ukraine, even in today’s Middle East situation. Prime Minister Kishida then emphasized that Japan will never waver in its position of standing together with Ukraine.
- Prime Minister Kishida also stated that regarding winterization assistance for Ukraine, Japan provided two autotransformers which benefit 500,000 residents in Kyiv in September and that Japan will continue its vigorous support in the energy sector.
- President Zelenskyy renewed his deep appreciation for Japan’s position and support extended thus far.
- The two leaders agreed to hold the Japan-Ukraine Conference for promotion of Economic Reconstruction in Tokyo on February 19, 2024, and confirmed that they will further advance efforts toward the conference in the unity of the public and private sectors. The two leaders also concurred that they will continue to work closely together to maintain and strengthen the cooperation among international community.
