Prime Minister Kishida’s Attendance at the Japan-Qatar Business Reception (Summary)

On July 18, commencing at 3 p.m. local time (9 p.m. JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting Qatar, attended the “Japan-Qatar Business Reception” hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Qatar. The summary is as follows.

The reception was attended by a number of people from the public and private sectors of both Japan and Qatar. Form the Qatari side, government officials including His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al-Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the state of Qatar attended, and from the Japanese members of the Economic Mission accompanying Prime Minister Kishida attended and exchanges of views took place.
 
1.  At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida pointed out that Japan has contributed to the development of Qatar primarily in the LNG sector and infrastructure improvement since the foundation of Qatar, and that the Japanese Government will continue to actively support the promotion of investment in both countries. Prime Minister Kishida also expressed his hope that Japan’s efforts in the public and private sectors will lead to Qatar’s economic diversification and the further strengthening of bilateral relations between Japan and Qatar.
 
2.  In a keynote address, Qatar’s Minister Mohammed stated that Japan and Qatar has a long standing cooperation relationship, explained Qatar’s attractiveness as an investment destination and its efforts toward economic reform, while also expressing his hopes for further investment from Japan.  
 
3.  In addition, on this occasion, Memorandums of Cooperation (MOC) were signed and exchanged by companies and other entities from both countries of Memorandums of Cooperation.
