Japan-Poland Summit Meeting (Summary)

On July 11, commencing at 4:00 p.m. (local time; 11:00 p.m. JST) for approximately 60 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting the Republic of Poland, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. Prime Minister Kishida stated that he was pleased to meet Prime Minister Morawiecki again, as he did in March, and that he would like to work closely with Poland to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law.


2. The two leaders agreed that bilateral relations have been rapidly growing closer since Prime Minister Kishida's visit to Poland in March, that economic relations should be further strengthened, and that the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, should be used as an opportunity to do so. Prime Minister Kishida also stated that the regular consultations that were decided to be launched during METI Minister Nishimura's visit to Poland are important for the promotion of economic relations.


3. Prime Minister Kishida also noted that at the recent G7 Summit in Hiroshima, attended by the leaders of the invited countries and Ukraine, the participants agreed on the importance of maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and that any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo by force should not be tolerated anywhere in the world.


4. In addition, the two leaders discussed the regional situation in Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific, and agreed to promote cooperation between the two countries. They also confirmed that they would continue to work together in dealing with North Korea, including the nuclear and missile issues and the abductions issue.
