Courtesy Call from Members of the United States House Committee on Ways and Means (Summary)

On June 26, commencing at 5:10 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from a delegation of United States House Ways and Means Committee members who are visiting Japan at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida welcomed the delegation’s visit to Japan and spoke about Japan’s close relations with the U.S. and the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

  2. Furthermore, Prime Minister Kishida shared his view that U.S. engagement in the the Indo-Pacific region’s economic order and economic security is increasingly important. He then conveyed Japan’s position on the TPP from a strategic perspective and exchanged views on U.S. engagement in the region with the delegation.

  3. The delegation thanked Prime Minister Kishida for the invitation and remarked that they look forward to continuing to advance cooperation between Japan and the U.S.
