Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Kishida by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken (Summary)

On April 18th, commencing at 3:48 p.m., for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from the Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America, who is visiting Japan to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida welcomed the active discussions held at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and Secretary Blinken stated that he would like to continue the close coordination between Japan and the U.S. in order to uphold the free and open international order based on the rule of law.

2. The two ministers exchanged their views on Japan-U.S. bilateral relationship, including Japan-U.S. security cooperation and Japan-U.S. economic relationship. Secretary Blinken expressed his continued commitment to further strengthening the deterrence and response capabilities of the Japan-U.S. Alliance, and further deepening the Japan-U.S. economic relationship.

3. Prime Minister Kishida stated the importance of Japan-U.S. cooperation for the success of the G7 Hiroshima Summit, and Secretary Blinken stated that he would like to continue to work for the success of the G7 Hiroshima Summit.
