Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Kishida by Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy to Japan of the United Arab Emirates H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber (Summary)

On April 14, commencing at 6:10 pm for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy to Japan of the United Arab Emirates, who is visiting Japan to participate in G7 Ministers' Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment in Sapporo. The overview is as follows.

1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida expressed congratulations on H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and stated that Japan attaches great importance to the strategic partnership with the UAE and look forward to cooperating in various fields. In response, Minister Jaber expressed his renewed hopes for strengthening the bilateral relations with Japan.

2. Minister Jaber handed an invitation to Prime Minister Kishida for COP 28 which will be held in November to December this year. In response, Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan is fully committed to making its utmost contribution to the negotiations at COP28 and will also lead discussions in the G7 Hiroshima Summit as the G7 Presidency.

3. Prime Minister Kishida expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s stable supply of crude oil to Japan and its consideration for the participation of Japanese companies in the upstream development over the years. The two leaders confirmed that cooperation between Japan and the UAE towards the stabilization of the international oil market, and that it is essential to further promote pragmatic energy transition and climate action in order to achieve decarbonization.
