Japan-Brazil Summit Telephone Talk (Summary)

On April 7, commencing at 8:40 a.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil. The summary of the talk is as follows.

1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida once again congratulated President Lula on his inauguration. He stated that he looks forward to discussing various issues of the international community with President Lula at the outreach meeting of the G7 Hiroshima Summit next month, and he expressed his hope that President Lula, with his abundant experience, will play an active role in the meeting. President Lula expressed his gratitude for the invitation to the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

2. President Lula stated that he has great respect for the Japanese people and the Nikkei community, and expressed his desire to expand the bilateral relations further in the economic, political and cultural fields including trade during his third term as president, in light of the great potential of the economic relations between the two countries.

3. The two leaders exchanged views on the situations in Ukraine and East Asia, including China and North Korea. The two leaders also confirmed that they will strengthen their cooperation at the UN this year, when both countries serve as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, and that they will work together on Security Council reform.
