Courtesy Call from UNGA President President Csaba Kőrösi (Summary)

On February 17, commencing at around 6:40 p.m. for approximately twenty-five minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call by H.E. Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), visiting Japan by the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
 
1.At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida stated that he valued the leadership of President Kőrösi at a time when the role of the UNGA is becoming increasingly important as the foundation of the international order is being greatly disrupted. In response, President Kőrösi expressed his gratitude for the invitation by Japan and stated thathe highly appreciated Japan’s contribution to the UN.
 
2.Prime Minister Kishida expressed his hope for President Kőrösi’s efforts in realizing the strengthening of UN functions, including through UN Security Council reform. They concurred to work closely with the UN on efforts regarding the situation in Ukraine, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, as well as other global issues.
 
3.They also exchanged views on addressing North Korean issues. Prime Minister Kishida asked for understanding and cooperation towards the immediate resolution of the abductions issueand gained the support of President Kőrösi.
