Japan-U.S. Summit Talk

On September 21 (local time. September 22, Japan time.), Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting New York to attend the UNGA, held a talk briefly on the occasion of the Global Fund’s Seventh Replenishment Conference, with the Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States of America. The overview of the talk is as follows.
 
1. Prime Minsiter Kishida expressed his appreciation for the dispatch of the delegation led by Vice President Harris to the state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe.
 
2. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance in the face of an increasingly severe regional security environment.
 
3. Prime Minister Kishida also commended President Biden’s mention of Security Council reform in his statement at the General Decate of the UNGA on 21st, and the two leaders confirmed their intention to continue to work together.
 
4. In addition, President Biden commented that Japan’s contribution was excellent, regarding the Prime Minister Kishida’s announcement of a Japanese pledge of up to $1.08 billion to the Global Fund.
