Japan-Moldova Summit Meeting
On September 28, starting from 6:30 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan had a summit meeting with H.E. Ms. Natalia Gavrilita, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, who is visiting Japan to attend the State Funeral for the former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo. The overview is as follows:
1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his gratitude for the participation in the State Funeral of the former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo by Prime Minister Gavrilita and Minister of Finance, Mr.Budianschi. While mentioning about the bilateral relationship, which has been well deepened after the opening of Embassy of Japan in the Moldova in 2016, Prime Minister Kishida stated that he would like to further cooperate with Moldova, the country with European aspirations and shares common values with Japan. On her end, Prime Minister Gavrilita expressed her deepest condolences on the loss of the former Prime Minister Abe, commenting on his important role in the international community. She stated her appreciation for the assistance extended by Japan since its declaration of independence for the development of Moldova in various fields, including agriculture and healthcare, and expressed the hope for further development of relations in areas starting with new investment.
2. Prime Minister Kishida welcomed that in recent years both countries marked constant development not only in traditional areas such as agriculture and healthcare, but also in broader fields, such as the deployment of satellite or decarbonization. The leaders agreed to continue to work together to further strengthen the relations.
3. Both sides confirmed that the unity among the like-minded countries is important in the wake of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which threatens the very foundations of the international order. Prime Minister Kishida commended Moldova’s effort for hosting the largest number of evacuees from Ukraine by population. Prime Minister Gavrilita reiterated Moldova’s deep appreciation for Japan’s support in this context, explained about the challenges which Moldova is facing in the ongoing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
