Meeting between Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio and Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck of Bhutan
On September 28, commencing at around 4:50 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, Princess of the Kingdom of Bhutan, who was visiting Japan to attend the State Funeral for former Prime Minister Abe. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. Prime Minister KISHIDA expressed his gratitude to Princess Wangchuck for attending the State Funeral for former Prime Minister ABE, and observing a Day of National Mourning in Bhutan as well as offering butter lamps by His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan. In response, Princess Wangchuck stated that she was shocked with the loss of the great leader, former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo, and the State Funeral was very impressive, and extended heartfelt condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister ABE.
2. Prime Minister KISHIDA stated that the relations between Japan and Bhutan have been amicable through exchanges including those between members of the Imperial Family and the Royal Family, as well as cooperation in agricultural sector, and expressed his intention to continue to strengthen the bilateral relations. Princess Wangchuck expressed her gratitude for Japan’s various support to Bhutan and hope for further development of the ties between Japan and Bhutan.
