Japan-Singapore Summit Meeting

On September 27, commencing at 9:30 a.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, who is visiting Japan to attend the State Funeral for the late Prime Minister ABE Shinzo. The overview of the summit meeting is as follows:

1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Lee and Mrs. Lee for attending the State Funeral, and expressed his intention to deepen collaboration with Singapore in maintaining and strengthening the free and open international order based on the rule of law. In response, Prime Minister Lee expressed his condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister Abe, and stated that former Prime Minister Abe was a good friend of Singapore and also a strong leader.

2. Prime Minister Kishida also welcomed the progress in coordination to hold a meeting of experts in the digital field by the end of this year, and expressed his hope for the early conclusion of the Agreement concerning the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology. In response, Prime Minister Lee expressed his intention to continuously strengthen cooperation in various fields.

3. In addition, the two leaders exchanged views on the situation in the East and South China Seas, economic coercion, and dealing with North Korea including on the nuclear, missile and abductions issues, among others, and concurred to work closely on these issues.
