Meeting between Prime Minister Kishida and Estonian Parliament President Ratas

On September 26, commencing at 3:10 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Jüri Ratas, President of the Parliament (Former Prime Minister) of the Republic of Estonia, who is visiting Japan to attend the state funeral for former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
 
1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his gratitude for the attendance by President Ratas at the state funeral for former Prime Minister Abe and his intention to develop the diplomatic legacy inherited from Mr. Abe. In response, President Ratas reiterated his heartfelt condolences for the passing of Mr. Abe, and praised Mr. Abe’s achievements, including his visit to Estonia which had been the first visit to Estonia by a Prime Minister of Japan.
 
2. Prime Minister Kishida and President Ratas appreciated the progress made in bilateral cooperation in the fields of cyber and digital, which President Ratas and Mr. Abe had agreed to promote when they were both in office as prime ministers, and Prime Minister Kishida and President Ratas concurred on further strengthening the cooperation between the two countries in the coming years.
 
3. Prime Minister Kishida also stated that Russia's aggression against Ukraine is an outrage that undermines the very foundation of the international order, and that it is important for the international community to respond in unity to halt the aggression as soon as possible. President Ratas agreed with Prime Minister Kishida's remark, and both leaders concurred on further strengthening the cooperation between the two countries over the situation in Ukraine.
