Japan-New Zealand Prime Ministers’ Informal Talks

On September 21, 2022, commencing at 11:05 a.m. local time (on September 22, 2022, at 0:05 a.m. JST) for approxiamately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, who was visiting New York to attend the Seventy-seventh Session of the United Nations General Assembly, held informal talks with Rt. Hon. Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand. The overview of the talks is as follows.

1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida stated that he shares the sadness over passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Prime Minister Kishida also expressed his gratitude for the condolence from Prime Minister Ardern for passing of the former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo.

2. In line with the views that they shared in their meeting in April, the two leaders concurred to proceed their cooperation in various fields such as the regional situations including the Pacific Islands region and economic cooperation including hydrogen.

3. The two leaders also affirmed that they will continue coordination between the two countries on the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP11), of which New Zealand will serve as chair next year.
