I am MATSUNO Hirokazu, Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan.
The Government of Japan designates the period from February 1 to March 18 as "Cybersecurity Awareness Month" as per every year. Various activities will be conducted by industry, academia and government in close coordination and cooperation.
Cyberattacks, including ransomware, have caused havoc around the world including Japan, and have had a significant impact on the society and economy.
Under these circumstances, it is very important for each and every one of you to thoroughly implement basic measures, such as "to use an appropriate password," "to update software to the latest version," and "to consult with experts whenever in trouble" so that all of you can use cyberspace safely and securely.
During the "Cybersecurity Awareness Month," the government plans to take various activities, including compiling basic measures as the "Nine Principles of Cybersecurity Measures" and making them widely known, and holding seminars for business leaders.
Together, let's work on the improvement of cybersecurity with “everyone’s participation.”
In light of aggravated threats in cyberspace, the strengthening of cybersecurity was incorporated into the “National Security Strategy” approved by the Cabinet at the end of last year.
Cyberattacks have been launched across borders.
The Government of Japan will make every possible effort to ensure cybersecurity in close cooperation with the international community, including the "Cyber Challenge Campaign" initiated by Quad members, Australia, India, Japan, and the United States.
