Fourth Preparatory Meeting on the Reconstruction of Ukraine
[Provisional translation]
On January 30, 2024, Prime Minister Kishida attended the fourth preparatory meeting on the reconstruction of Ukraine at the Prime Minister’s Office.
At the meeting, the participants engaged in discussions on the promotion of the reconstruction of Ukraine by Japan’s public and private sectors.
In his address, the Prime Minister said:
“We are finally three weeks away from the Japan-Ukraine Conference for Promotion of Economic Reconstruction on February 19. I myself have led discussions on the issue of Ukraine in the international community as the G7 chair and held a series of meetings with President Zelenskyy, such as through my visit to Ukraine. In doing so, we have positioned recovery and reconstruction as a pillar of contribution unique to Japan. Next month’s conference will serve as an important opportunity to strongly demonstrate Japan’s such contributions to the international community once again.
Ukraine shows a huge reconstruction demand and has high expectations for Japan’s experience in its post-war and post-earthquake reconstruction as well as the technologies and insights of Japanese companies. It is important for both the public and private sectors to work as one to provide support through an all-Japan approach, involving small and medium-sized enterprises and startups, to say nothing of large enterprises.”
