Press Conference by the Prime Minister regarding His Attendance at the World Leaders Summit at COP 26

November 2, 2021
[Provisional Translation]

I will now head to the United Kingdom to attend COP26 (the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). COP26 will be an important opportunity as a venue for discussions on climate change policy. There I will send out to the international community the messages that Japan will press forward with our efforts to realize carbon neutrality by 2050, and that we are strong in our determination to demonstrate leadership towards Asia as a whole transitioning to zero emissions. Moreover, I will make the most of this opportunity to engage in summit diplomacy through such meetings as those with Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam.
