October 8, 2021
[Provisional Translation]
(Regarding the earthquake centered in Northwestern Chiba Prefecture)
There have been no abnormalities reported at nuclear power plants and other related facilities due to the earthquake centered in the northwestern part of Chiba Prefecture. On the other hand, we have received reports that some people have been injured due to a fall or other causes and that there have been many calls for ambulances. We have also been informed that part of the train service has been suspended while several fires have broken out. It was the first time in 10 years that Tokyo's 23 wards have registered an intensity of 5 or higher on the Japanese seismic scale of 0-7 since the Great East Japan Earthquake. We have received reports that the latest earthquake that hit such urban areas has resulted in people having difficulty returning home. For those who have difficulty returning home, we are requesting business establishments to provide as much support as possible. The Government will continue to collect relevant information and make every effort for a quick recovery. Thank you.
