Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: I would like to give an overview of the Cabinet meeting. The following are statements given by ministers. Minister Amari made a statement concerning the establishment of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Task Force. Prime Minister Abe made a statement concerning the concurrent holding of the post of State Minister of Cabinet Office or other posts by State Ministers of ministries or other individuals. The Minister for Foreign Affairs made a statement concerning emergency grant aid to support the presidential election in the Republic of Guinea and concerning the Official Working Visit to Japan by the Hon. Peter O’Neill, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology made a statement concerning the awarding of Nobel Prizes to Japanese nationals, and Minister Shimajiri made a statement concerning the awarding of Nobel Prizes to Japanese researchers. Prime Minister Abe made a statement concerning acting Ministers while Ministers in charge are away on overseas visits.

Following today’s Cabinet meeting, the TPP Task Force whose membership includes all Cabinet members, as approved during the Cabinet meeting, convened its first meeting. The meeting approved the Basic Guidelines on Comprehensive Policy Responses Based on the Agreement in Principle on the TPP.
After the TPP Task Force meeting ended, the Headquarters on Creating Dynamism through Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Industries and Local Communities held a meeting. At the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the Headquarters to undertake swift reviews of concrete measures, in accordance with the basic guidelines that were approved at the meeting of the TPP Task Force.
