Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: At today’s Cabinet meeting, the Cabinet approved the invitation of H.E. Dr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam of Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, for an Official Visit to Japan from September 15 to 18. During his stay in Japan, General Secretary Trong will be received in audience by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. Prime Minister Abe will also hold a meeting as well as host a dinner for General Secretary Trong. Based on their “Extensive Strategic Partnership,” Japan and Viet Nam have steadily deepened their cooperative relations in a wide range of areas in recent years. We expect that welcoming General Secretary Trong to Japan as a guest will provide a very significant opportunity to further deepen such ties and cooperative relations between our two countries.
