Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)

[Provisional Translation]

Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: From June 16 to 19, H.E. Mr. Zoran Milanović, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, will make his first working visit to Japan as Croatian Prime Minister. Croatia overcame the ethnic war of independence from former Yugoslavia, took steps towards postwar reconstruction and ethnic reconciliation, and was one of the first Southeast European countries to accede to the European Union (EU). Japan and Croatia are important partners that share fundamental values, such as freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Through the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan, Japan hopes to deepen bilateral relations, including people-to-people contacts and economic relations, and further work with Croatia at internationally and Japan-EU forums.
