Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)
[Provisional Translation]
Q&As
(Abridged)
REPORTER: I have a question concerning the accident involving an Osprey transport aircraft in Hawaii. Governor Onaga of Okinawa Prefecture has stated in a press conference that until the causes of the accident have been identified he wants operation of Osprey aircraft including those deployed in Japan to be stopped. Given such opinions within Japan how does the Government intend to approach the United States with regard to this matter?
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: In any case, the Government has issued a request to the United States, seeking the prompt provision of relevant information including the causes of the failed landing of the aircraft and also calling for maximum attention to be paid to the safe operation of Osprey aircraft deployed at Futenma Air Station. The United States has indicated that it will provide a swift and transparent response about this incident.
