Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: First I would like to provide an overview of the Cabinet meeting. The meeting approved 24 general and other measures, the promulgation of a treaty, draft legislation, cabinet orders, and personnel matters. With regard to statements by ministers, Minister Arimura, the Minister of Health, Labour, and Welfare, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and Prime Minister Abe each made statements regarding the Guidelines on Measures for the Declining Birthrate. In addition, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications made a statement concerning the situation of local public finance, Minister Ishiba made a statement concerning the bill on the legislative development to facilitate the promotion of reform designed to enhance regional autonomy and self-reliance, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications also made a statement concerning the allocation of fiscal 2014 special tax grants as well as special tax grants for reconstruction for March, the Minister of Finance made a statement concerning the formulation of the provisional budget for fiscal 2015, the Minister of Health, Labour, and Welfare made a statement concerning the situation of the annual spring wage offensive, and Prime Minister Abe made a statement concerning acting Ministers while Ministers in charge are away on overseas visits.

During the ministerial meeting following the Cabinet meeting Minister Yamatani and the Minister for Foreign Affairs each reported on the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.
