REPORTER: Today a research team assembled by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) announced the results of their research, noting that an earthquake in the Tokyo Bay region is projected to create large tremors of a seismic intensity of level 7, exceeding previous projections. What is the view of the Government, including the Central Disaster Management Council, of these new projections, and what response will be made?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA: The research results that have been announced on this occasion relate to an advanced study on the anticipated impact of an earthquake in close proximity to the Tokyo Metropolitan region, which is titled the Special Project for Earthquake Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Tokyo Metropolitan Area. The results of this research are planned to be utilized by the Central Disaster Management Council to conduct an anticipated damage assessment, scheduled for fiscal 2012, and by the Headquarters for Earthquake Research Promotion for earthquake assessment in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.
