Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)
[Provisional Translation]
Q&As
(Abridged)
REPORTER: Last night the Bank of Japan announced that it would be cooperating with the central banks of six countries on the dollar. What is your view of Japan's efforts to respond to the crisis in Europe?
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA: This has already been covered in full in this morning's newspapers. Due to heightening concern over the European debt crisis, Japan is also sensing risk of its economy falling into a downward swing. I take the decision made yesterday on Wednesday, November 30, to expand operations for supplying United States dollar funds as an undertaking that will contribute to measures being carried out in aim of achieving monetary stability through the cooperation of central banks of various countries. I believe it to be an appropriate response in consideration of the current circumstances in the short-term dollar market in Europe.
