Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)
[Provisional Translation]
Q&As
(Abridged)
REPORTER:I understand that an announcement was made to postpone the Prime Minister's press conference by one day. What was the explanation that was given for the postponement?
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA:The party's conclusion yesterday was made one day behind the initially planned date. Therefore, taking seriously the explanation of the situation provided at today's meeting with Government and Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) executives, the Prime Minister wanted to sleep on it one more night.
REPORTER:Until now, Prime Minister Noda has expressed a strong will to participate in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. Does this (postponement) mean that Prime Minister Noda has changed his view in light of the party's conclusion?
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA:Prime Minister Noda takes seriously the party's statement to "decide cautiously." I do not sense that there is any change. While there are a variety of ways of interpreting willingness, at the very least there is no change to the fact that the Prime Minister himself would like to make a decision based upon the party's conclusion.
