Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)
[Provisional Translation]
Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA:I would like to report on the upcoming attendance of Prime Minister Noda at the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit New York from September 20 to 23, to attend his first UN General Assembly since assuming the position of Prime Minister. During his stay in New York, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a number of meetings, including the General Debate Session of the General Assembly to which he will deliver an address, and also the High-level Meeting on Nuclear Safety and Security. Prime Minister Noda will also take the opportunity provided by his visit to host a reception as a means of expressing gratitude for the assistance and support provided by all countries following the Great East Japan Earthquake. He is also scheduled to hold summit-level talks with the leaders of various nations, including a Japan-United States summit meeting. I believe that the attendance of the Prime Minister at the UN General Assembly will provide an excellent opportunity to set out Japan's position and vision concerning issues that face the international community, and deepen personal relations of trust with national leaders.
