Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Edano
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY EDANO:I would like to report on the 9th Ministerial Meeting on the Overseas Deployment of Integrated Infrastructure Systems, which was held this morning. The meeting was attended by the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Minister for National Policy, Senior Vice Minister of Finance, Senior Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Parliamentary Secretary of the Environment, and myself. Also, President and CEO Motoyuki Oka of the Sumitomo Corporation and President Hirobumi Kawano of the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) attended as experts. At the meeting, opinions were freely exchanged with the experts on the issue of resource procurement focusing on rare metals and rare earths. We plan to continue to hold this meeting as needed in the future in order to consider assistance for concrete projects related to the export of integrated infrastructure systems and formulation of sector-specific and region-specific strategies.
